"Slender Man" Stabbing Suspect Not Fit To Stand Trial, Attorney Says

Morgan Geyser’s attorney said Tuesday she still believes fictional characters are real. Geyser and Anissa Weier are accused of plotting to kill a classmate to please the fictional Slender Man character.

Geyser has been receiving mental treatment since August. A judge ordered the treatment after a state psychologist testified that the 12-year-old girl claimed to see fictional characters including Slender Man and figures from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Harry Potter franchises.

But Tuesday, attorney Anthony Cotton said the treatment hasn't improved Geyser's mental state, the Associated Press reported.

"We don't think anything has changed in terms of her functioning," Cotton said. Cotton added that he plans to have a doctor testify at an upcoming hearing to confirm that Geyser is mentally incompetent to stand trial.

Cotton also praised the quality of Geyser's recent treatment, saying it was better than what she received while in jail. However, if she is found competent to stand trial she will likely be headed back to jail, the AP reported.

The girls reportedly wanted to become "proxies" of Slender Man, who is depicted as a tall, faceless figure. The attack happened in June during a sleepover, and Geyser and Weier reportedly only missed one of the victim's major arteries by a millimeter.

Weier was found competent to stand trial in October. However, her attorneys also are challenging that ruling.

Both girls have competency hearings scheduled for Dec. 18.
