The picture was retweeted thousands of times.
Hughes told BuzzFeed News that his son Charlie started playing with the football figures after getting back from playing for Stevenage Borough's youth side.
When Charlie showed his dad his toys, Hughes tried to tell him he had the formation set up wrong.
But the young football fan replied: "No daddy, it's a minute's silence like what we saw at Arsenal v Burnley."
Hughes said the reaction to his tweet, which has now been retweeted almost 3,000 times, was great.
He said while his son didn't quite understand the attention he had received, he was pleased to learn his picture had been seen by former Arsenal players.
Hughes added: "He's seen the picture but doesn't really understand. He loved the fact Ian Wright saw it, as I've told him all about him."
